Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber third fastest, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
