Much like bad weather hit the north-west the prior day, City overwhelmed United away at the Etihad Stadium. It was a convincing three-nil triumph for their manager's side due to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Hemp. It was a display that clearly signaled their title credentials as they consolidated their standing at the WSL pinnacle.

Consecutive Defeats for Manchester United

This outcome signalled successive WSL losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the initial occasion since last May, leaving them a significant margin off the table toppers with their trophy ambitions in serious doubt.

The Red Devils' capability to balance domestic and European football with a small squad has been a hotly discussed issue since they qualified for the Champions League. Looking at the fixture list, it always felt like this was the matchday that would fully examine this fortitude. Sadly for the away side, they appeared weary all game, the landmark win against the French side clearly having taken a toll.

The home side, in contrast, could have increased their advantage when a excellent Vivianne Miedema pass sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to miss the chance but it mattered little to the winning team.
